OGDEN — Several individuals had impressive outings as Woodward-Granger finished fifth in the 10-team Ogden Duals Saturday.
Humboldt finished first, Kuemper Catholic second and Gilbert third, with Butler and W-G completing the top five. Ogden finished sixth, with Clarke, Greene County, Carroll and Coon Rapids-Bayard completing the team standings.
Humboldt topped W-G, 51-27, in the first dual of the day for the Hawks, who responded to the setback to post a 57-24 win over Greene County. Gilbert was a 47-28 winner over W-G in the third dual for the Hawks, who finished the meet with wins of 42-37 over Carroll and of 38-28 over Ogden.
Tanner Vermaas (182 pounds) and Hunter Pierce (106) both finished 5-0 for the Hawks.
Vermaas won a 3-2 decision over Isaiah Yoder (GC) and pinned Aiden Carr (GLB) in 53 seconds, Riley Nehring (CAR) in 1 minutes, 33 seconds and Joel Osborn (HMB) in 5:43 while also receiving a forfeit.
Pierce received two forfeits while recording three falls. He pinned Garret Tasler (GC) in 4:49, Cole Nelson (HMB) in 59 seconds and Alex Pontow (CAR) in 24 ticks.
Austin Scharlau (152) finished 4-1, with victories by pinfall over Garret Bales (OGD) in 2:50, of Isaac Ireland (GC) in 4:58 and of Levi Naeve (HMB) in 3:07 and by 10-0 major decision against John Howell (GLB).
Also 4-1 for W-G was 195-pounder Cody Fisher. He beat Brandon Johnson (HMB), 6-1, and stuck Markus Rosenow (GC) in 31 seconds and Jacob Torresi (GLB) in 38 seconds while winning once via forfeit.
Tate Lettow (120) was 3-2 with a forfeit, a pin of Greene County’s Dale Morian in 2:28 and a pin of Carroll’s Bryce Wuebker in 1:22. Alex Kirton (285) was also 3-2, tallying wins by fall over Caden Wilson (GC) in 52 seconds and over Josh Luft (CAR) in 50 ticks and with a 16-9 win by decision against Hunter Campbell (OGD).
Colt Palmer (126) was 2-3 with a pin of Corey Ksperbauer (HMB) in 2:34 and a forfeit, with Cole Carman (138) 2-3 with a pin of Devon Schweitzer (CAR) in 1:56 and a forfeit.
Records of 2-3 were also recorded by Gabe Yingst (145) and Cale Pritchett (170). The former pinned Joel Ward (GC) and Luke Woosley (CAR) in 2:43 and 2:19, respectively, with Pritchett pinning Britton Gallagher (GC) in 4:28 and Max Smalley (GLB) in :47 seconds.
Jay Dorenkamp (132) picked up a win by forfeit, with Tyler Lawernson (220) also collecting a forfeit. Tae Calderon (132), Thomas Govig (170) and Dillon Fogarty (220) were also in action but unable to record a victory.
W-G returns to the mat Thursday with a visit to Bondurant-Farrar before hosting the West Central Conference tournament Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m.
