Distraught man cuts own throat in Boone Hy-Vee Sunday

No charges were filed after a Boone man cut his own throat in the Boone Hy-Vee early Sunday morning.

A man cut his own throat in the Hy-Vee grocery store at 1111 Eighth St. in Boone early Sunday, according to a statement released by the company.

A Hy-Vee spokesperson said a customer seriously injured himself around 3 a.m. inside the 24-hour food store. Other customers in the building at the time were escorted out, and there were no other injuries.

The victim was transported by air ambulance to a nearby hospital. His condition is unknown at this hour.

The spokesperson said hazardous-materials workers cleared the store, which reopened about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Boone Police Department responded to the incident. Boone Police Sgt. Ryan Palmer said a statement concerning the incident would be issued by the department Monday.
