A stormy Saturday night did not dampen the Sunday-morning spirits of the 50-some riders in the 2015 Relay for Life for Northern Dallas County who rolled out of Perry at 10 a.m. on the second annual charity ride for cancer research and assistance.

Tammy Wallace of Perry, committee member of the Relay for Life of Northern Dallas County team, said last year’s bike ride raised about $1,000 and this year’s higher preregistration numbers mean a higher donation total.

“This is a great way to support cancer research,” Wallace said, “and to help people who need assistance with chemo and other treatment services.”

Sherry Jones of Rippey and Diane Wehner of Perry were among the riders at the starting line. Jones called the ride “a beautiful way to support the cause for northern Dallas County.”

This was Wehner’s first Relay for Life bike ride and the second for Jones, who also walks in the fall Relay for Life walk-a-thon.

Wallace reminded riders this year’s walk-a-thon is scheduled for Sept. 19 from 4-10 p.m. at the Perry High School Jim Kaufman Track.
