  • A caller said “that she got a popup on her computer that said to call a number for security, which she did. Her computer is now being held hostage, and the man she spoke to put $5,000 in her bank account and asked her to get gift cards. She was able to get $3,000 worth of gift cards, and she gave him the codes. Now he keeps calling her, wanting the additional $1,500.” An officer responded and “learned nothing had been taken from” the caller’s “account,” and the caller had “lost none of her own money.” While the officer was investigating, the caller’s phone rang, “and it was the company” the caller “had been dealing with.” The scammer “hung up” “upon hearing” he “was speaking with an officer.”
  • A man entered the offices of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave. and said “he just gace a check to a person he purchased a car from that lives here in town. He drove the car out to the Hy-Vee lot, and it died.” The man said he “would like to go to that person’s address to get his check back.” An officer responded and “advised him it was a civil matter.”
  • A caller said someone “has been texting him.” An officer responded.
  • A caller said she caught a cat running at large. An officer responded and recognized the animal as reported missing. The officer took the animal to its owner.
  • A caller said “there were kids across the street on an outbuilding.” The caller said “she’s afraid they’re going to get hurt.” An officer responded and told the children “they were not supposed to be up there. They agreed to not do it again.”
  • A caller said someone “has been sending him disturbing texts that point to his possibly being suicidal.” An officer responded.
