Perry tailback Donald Chavez runs upfield on this second quarter carry against host DC-G last season, Chavez had 59 yards in the game.

LAST MEETING — The third game of the 2015 season was a forgettable affair for Perry, who was manhandled, 44-0, by the Tigers. The Bluejays ran only 35 plays, passing for 61 yards while being held to 21 rushing yards on 18 carries. The Tigers, in contrast, had 61 offensive plays, rushing for 253 yards and passing for 107.

ABOUT THE BLUEJAYS — Perry has not scored in 10 quarters while yielding 72 points over the past two weeks. The offense has generated 264 passing and 421 rushing yards — slightly more than one-third of Gilbert’s output.

Adan Medina is 23-48-2 for 202 yards and two touchdowns through the air, with Alexis Garrido 10-27-1 for 62 yards.

Reece Dunlap (11 catches for 83 yards) leads the receiving corps, with Janier Puente (7-48, 1 TD), Brandon Kenyon (5-33, 1 TD), Donald Chavez (4-37), Mark Campos (3-32) and Brandon Juarez (3-31) also catching passes.

Medina’s 165 yards and two TDs on 69 carries leads the ground game, with Chavez (42-139), Campos (23-81, 1 TD) and Dunlap (11-62, 1 TD) also involved.

Medina and Juarez led the tackle stats with 29.5 and 29 tackles, respectively. Puente has six sacks and eight tackles for loss among his 26.5 stops, with Tyler Soll (25.5) and Campos and Chavez (25) also key pieces for a defense that has played well at times, but has fallen victim to Perry’s short roster against teams that can more readily platoon players.

ABOUT THE TIGERS — Gilbert opened with wins of 33-13 at Roland-Story and of 30-29 against Carlisle. They upset Webster City, 31-25, in their district opener and topped host Iowa Falls-Alden, 33-12, before falling to Boone, 35-15, last week.

Quarterback Steven Lawrence, a 5-9, 160 pound senior is a real weapon, having passed for 667 yards and four scores and rushed for 542 yards and six touchdowns, the longest of which has covered five yards.

Ajay Reed (14-232, 2 TDs), Cody Dvorak (16-211, 2 TDs) and Philip Roetman (12-181) have been the chief targets. Dvorak hurt Perry last year with 73 yards and a score on six rushes while catching two passes for 36 yards and a TD.

Dvorak has found the end zone eight times while rushing for 469 yards on 82 carries, with Reed having 137 yards and one TD on 14 rushes.

Christian Harder has 30.5 tackles and Noah Ante 26.5 and three sacks. Other defensive leaders include Jeb Shaw (23.5) and Jack Currans (23).
