Perry's Esveidy Hernandez works to slow down a rush from Winterset in the first half of their RRC match earlier this season.

Visiting Winterset scored late in the first half to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission, then tacked on a final goal early in the second half to post a 3-0 win over Perry in Raccoon River Conference girls soccer at Dewey Field Tuesday.

Perry head coach Gilmar Guerra said before the season that he was confident his team would be stronger as the schedule progressed, but that solving the problems of key defensive losses to graduation would be a cause of early concern.

Those worries were on display Tuesday, as the Huskies spent most of the first 40 minutes controlling possession and threatening the Perry goal, with two scores the result.

Perry had few offensive opportunities in the first half but more as the game developed. Unfortunately the Jayettes were unable to turn those chances into open shots, with three shots on goal from Natalie Martinez and one from Jazmin Hernandez the only serious threats in the match.

Odaly Perla finished with five saves between the pipes for Perry.

Winterset was a 5-0 winner in the junior varsity contest, which was shortened to only one half due to a scarcity of available players. Carly Anderson made 13 saves for Perry, who did not have a shot on goal.

Perry will return to action Thursday when they host Carlisle.
