Perry's Mario Cruz (4) and a Bondurant-Farrar player battle for possession at Dewey Field last season. Fourth-ranked Perry moved to 7-0 with a win at Dewey Field Tuesday.

WINTERSET — Jonathan Castro beat the Winterset keeper less than three minutes into Tuesday’s season opener, helping Perry post an eventual 3-0 victory in Raccoon River Conference boys soccer action.

Castro’s noggin’ knock came off an assist from Ever Tobar and sparked an excellent effort from the fifth-ranked Bluejays. Anthony Velasco’s goal later in the half sent Perry into the intermission with a 2-0 lead.

Tenth-rated Winterset could not stop Perry from controlling the pace of the game as the guests dominated time of possession and limited scoring chances for the Huskies.

Tomas Lopez assisted on a Tobar goal in the second half to cap the scoring and give the Jays a win in what has become, in recent seasons, a passionate rivalry.

Perry returns to action Thursday with a visit to Carlisle. The Bluejays will play on Dewey Field twice next week, hosting Des Moines East Monday and Grinnell April 12.
