Jayettes compete in limited number of events Tuesday

GILBERT — The Perry girls track team visited the Lindsey Ellingson Invite Tuesday, with the Jayettes participating in 11 of the 19 events.

Perry did not have entries in the 1500, 100 and 400 hurdles, high jump and long jump and the 4×200, 4×800 and shuttle hurdle relays. The Jayettes ran in the sprint medley but were disqualified.

The limited participation held Perry to just 50 points. Gilbert cruised to the girls team win with 212 points, with Roland-Story second at 133. Ballard was third at 106, with South Hamilton (88), Saydel (56), Perry (50) and Des Moines Christian (40) following.

Rylynn Gilmore pushed the shot put 30 feet, 4-1/4 inches for victory, with Sydney Helmers seventh at 25’2. Gilmore was fourth in the discus with a spin of 83’7.

Freshman Jaylene Karolus strolled to an easy victory in the 3000. The state cross country qualifier finished in 11 minutes, 42.54 seconds, winning by a whopping 47 seconds. She was third in the 800 in 2:38.29.

Quinn Whiton crossed fourth in the 100 (14.28) and seventh in the 200 (30.6) while also competing in the 400 (1:17.32).

Sandra Perez, Alyssa Grow, Kennedy Tunink and Cindy Troung placed fifth in the distance medley in 5:10.84, with Whiton, Grow, Kennedy Tunink and Peyton Tunink placing sixth in the 4×100 in 58.34.

Perry was also sixth in the 4×400. Karolus, Perez, Troung and Peyton Tunink ran the relay, finishing in 5:01.88.

Both Perry teams will visit the Carroll Invitational Monday before hosting the Jayette/Bluejay Coed Relays April 11.
