Jayette tracksters find reason for optimism at Tiger Relays

The Perry girls were in action Tuesday at ADM and will return to the track Friday at Ballard.

ADEL — The points may not have come in large piles, but the personal-best efforts did for the Perry girls track team Tuesday.

The Jayettes were competing in the Tiger Relays, where they finished tied with Des Moines North with 39 points. Host ADM compiled 170 points to win, with Waukee (150), DC-G (138), Boone (89) and Des Moines Hoover (75) also in the field.

Perry did not compete in several events, opting to instead run them in the junior varsity portion of the meet. The Jayettes had six personal-best efforts produced in varsity competition.

Leading the way was freshman distance standout Jaylene Karolus, who won the 3000 in 11 minutes, 24 seconds while placing fourth in the 800 in 2:37.56, both new personal marks.

Jasmine Shriver and Cindy Troung were 2-8 in the 400, in 1:04.09 and 1:10.6, both new PB efforts. Kennedy Tunink’s PB of 29.48 placed eighth in the 200, with Mary Ann Riesberg added a PB of 15.03 in the 100 while Bella Milosevich crossed eighth, in 6:39.7, in the 1500.

Quinn Whiton landed sixth in the long jump at 13 feet, 3 inches, with Sydney Helmers spinning the discus 70’6 and throwing the shot put 23’1.

The 4×100 team of Lanie Fish, Alyssa Grow, Joanna Rodriguez and Stephanie Garcia were sixth, in 1:03.09, with Shriver, Troung, Kennedy Tunink and Peyton Tunink sixth in the sprint medley in 2:07.87.

Also scoring for Perry were Shriver, Troung, Karolus and Kennedy Tunink, who finished seventh in the 4×400 in 4:36.98.

The Jayettes will return to action Friday with a visit to Ballard.
