Host Roadrunners streak past Hawks in WCAC softball

TRURO — Interstate-35 overwhelmed a young Woodward-Granger squad in both ends of a WCAC softball doubleheader Thursday.

The Roadrunners improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play with a 12-0 win in four innings in the first game before claiming a 10-1 win in the nightcap. The Hawks fell to 0-6, 0-4 with the setbacks.

Ava Knoll struck out six and walked three while blanking W-G on no hits in the opener.

Natalie Weaver, Kenzi Carrick and Bella Milosevich each drew a bases on balls for W-G, with Weaver and Milosevich each stealing a base.

Rian Jamison yielded four runs on four hits and five walks in two frames in the ring for the Hawks. Brylee Bice pitched 1-1/3 innings of relief and was tagged for eight runs (six earned) on three hits and seven walks. Both finished with a single strikeout.

Summer Pasutti swatted a three-run home run for I-35, with Josie McCudden smacking a solo homer.

W-G was the home team on the scoreboard and matched a first-inning I-35 run with a tally of their own.

Emma Anderson reached on an error, moved to third on a bunt and scored on an error after being caught in a rundown on the play between third base and home plate.

Anderson later added a single, with Chloe Houge provided a single while Weaver walked once and stole a base.

Ava Peterson surrendered 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits and four walks in suffering the loss.

Katie Murphy collected the win while striking out nine.

Josie McCuddin had three doubles and Carli McCudden two two-base hits to fuel the I-35 attack. The Roadrunners plated five runs in the top of the second to help break the game open.

W-G hosts Bondurant-Farrar tonight and will play in the Ballard Tournament Saturday. They are scheduled to play three times, with games at 8:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
