WOODWARD — A strong pitching effort from freshman Jayna Kenney, who received plenty of offensive support, combined to carry the Perry softball team to an 11-3 win over Lewis Central at the W-G Classic Friday.
Lewis Central (2-11) grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Perry erupted for four runs in their first at-bat and kept hammering away in the second frame with five additional runs scoring as the margin swelled to 9-1.
Perry (3-8) scored twice in the fourth to push the lead to 11-1, with two Titan runs in the fifth making the score 11-3. The game ended due to a tourney time limit after LC failed to score in the top of the sixth.
Kenney allowed three runs — only one of which was earned — on just four hits and a walk. She finished with a season-high six strikeouts.
Lydia Olejniczak had two hits, two steals, two runs and a RBI while also reaching by being hit by a pitch. Kenney helped her own cause with two hits, two runs, three steals and by reaching on an error.
Peyton Tunink had a two-run single and then drove in another run, with Adriana Eastman adding a hit, two RBIs, two runs and reaching twice by twice being plunked with a pitch. Kennedy Tunink had a hit, steal and two RBIs, Jasmine Shriver a two-run single, with Bella Nath and Cassidy Heck each providing base hits.
In other Friday games at the Classic, W-G was a 5-4 winner over Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln, with Ogden topping Lewis Central 10-2 and CBAL 11-5.
Perry faces Ogden at 12 p.m. and host W-G at 2 p.m. today as the Classic winds up.
