The Perry Fine Arts Committee is excited to present the new season of concerts. This season we are dedicating our concerts to the memory of Alice Schumacher. She was a dedicated member and supporter of Fine Arts and loved music of all kinds. The first concert will be presented by Ann and Charlie Heymann on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Perry Performing Arts Center.
Ann and Charlie Heymann are internationally-known musicians who present the Gaelic wire-strung harp of Ireland and Highland Scotland and its music. Ann is recognized as the instrument’s leading performer, and Charlie is a respected singer of Celtic ballads old and new.
Both Ann and Charlie are also accomplished multi-instrumentalists: Charlie on button accordion, guitar and cittern, and Ann adding flute, whistle and bodhran. In addition to harp music they perform danceable reels, jigs and (Irish) polkas, and sing Celtic songs ranging from humorous to emotional.
“I was left breathless by the sheer power of Ann Heymann’s playing,” said the Living Tradition of Edinburgh. “She wields her instrument like a sword to cut to the heart of the tradition and draw forth its lifeblood.”
Fine Arts concerts are free (donations accepted) and open to all. The Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
El Comité de las Bellas Artes está emocionado presentar el nuevo año de conciertos. Este año dedicamos nuestros conciertos a la memoria de Alice Schumacher.
