WOODWARD — The Woodward-Granger girls basketball team continued their winning ways with a 41-36 victory over a resolute Glidden-Ralston squad in non-conference action Monday.

The Wildcats (1-7) fought well, trailing only 19-17 at the half and just 31-30 after three frames. The host Hawks (8-1) were able to outscore their guests, 10-6, over the final eight minutes to pull out the victory.

Sophomore Emma Anderson hit two 3-pointers and one two-point shot, but it was her 9-of-10 effort at the free throw line that helped the hosts down the stretch. Anderson sank all eight of her second-half attempts at the stripe to finish with a team-high 17 points.

W-G finished the game 11-of-15 at the line, with G-R sinking 7-of-14.

Finley Fitzgerald had 11 points, Katelyn Scharlau five, Darby Nixon four and both Natalie Helbling and Mae Anderson two apiece for the victors.

Hannah Whitver led all scorers with 18 points for G-R. Kim Daily added seven points, Gretchen Wallace six, Paige Klocke three and Tori Grossman two.

Both W-G teams will visit Pleasantville tonight before hosting AC/GC Friday.
