Bluejay wrestlers stopped by Rams, host Bombers

HUXLEY — Host Ballard and Greene County each claimed dual team wins over Perry in a wrestling triangular Thursday.

Greene County recorded a 43-21 win over Perry, with Ballard topping Perry, 48-28. Ballard was a 42-27 victor over Greene County in the other dual.

Eighth-ranked Cole Nelson won with pins at 1 minute, 38 seconds and then in 1:37 against Ballard to finish 2-0 at 113 pounds.

Jacob Nelson won decisions of 9-6 and of 8-5 to win twice at 145, with Wilber Ramirez stepping up to 170, where he won by pin, in 5:48, and by forfeit (against Greene County).

Bryan Funez was 1-1 at 132 with an 11-8 decision against Greene County, with Erick Funez 1-1 at 138 after recording a 16-0 technical fall, in 4:44, against Ballard.

Riece Graham (106) was 1-1 with a 19-1 tech fall, in 4:24, against the hosts while Cole Snyder — who dropped his match against the Bombers at 182 — stepped up to 195 to win an 8-4 decision against the Rams.

Also 1-1 for Perry was heavyweight Alan Gomez, who beat his Ballard opponent with a 4-2 win in Sudden Victory I.

Tanner Burgin (126), Charley Guardado (152), Byron Melendrez (160) and Zach Darr (220) were all turned aside in each of the two matches each of the quartet wrestled.

The Bluejays did not compete at 120 pounds.

Perry will return to the mat Saturday when they wrestle in the Raccoon River Conference tournament in Winterset.
