It turned out that hosting Tigers on consecutive days was not the ideal situation for the Bluejay basketball team.

One day after ADM overcame a Perry rally to post a 62-45 win visiting Madrid blew out their hosts, 80-38, in a Saturday matinee.

Madrid (14-3) and little interest in giving Perry (3-11) much hope of a fourth win by racing to a 22-11 first quarter lead in their non-conference tilt. Perry was outscored, 27-11, in the following eight minutes to face a 49-22 gulf at the intermission.

The Bluejay offense was in full slumber in the third period for the second consecutive game. After scoring only five points in the third frame Friday, Perry scored just four points Saturday, with 15 Tiger points pushing Madrid out to a 64-26 lead en route to the 42-point win.

Madrid is the fifth-highest scoring team, at 74.8 points per game, among all classes. They have been held under 70 points just five times this season, winning twice and accounting for all three of their losses.

Senior guard Braden Gibbons entered the game fifth in all classes in scoring at 26 points per game. He sank five 3-pointers and torched the Jays for 40 points.

Mason Lobeck had 11 points, Alex Biegger nine, Gabe Peterson eight and Cayden Fuson four. Three points from Marcus Morre and Kadyn Severson and two from C.J. Dean capped the Tiger scoring.

Brendan Ivory was held to one 3-pointer and nine points for Perry after scoring 31 points on seven treys in Friday’s game.

Keghan West had eight points, June Reisberg and Matthew Booker five each and Kato Dougan four, with two points apiece from Chase Archer and William Hibbart and a Caden Steva free throw completing the Perry scoring ledger.

Perry (1-8 in Raccoon River Conference) looked as if they might threaten ADM (8-7, 6-4) with an upset Friday, but were again stymied by long scoreless stretches when it mattered most.

The Jays had fallen into a 14-6 hole after one period, but used a 17-11 second quarter to climb to within 25-23 at the intermission.

Ivory splashed a trey early in the third to give the hosts a 26-25 lead, with a technical foul against ADM (for reaching across the in-bound line, after being expressly warned not to do so) sending Perry to line for two free throws and possession. All came up empty, breathing new life into a rattled Tiger team.

ADM scored 20 of the next 22 points to finish the quarter leading, 45-28. The guests sank 7-of-8 at the foul line in the third quarter and were 4-of-4 in the fourth to finish the game 11-of-12 at the stripe while Perry was 2-of-6.

Ivory’s 31 led all scorers, with Keghan West adding six points to 12 rebounds. Reisberg had four points, with two apiece from Dougan and Avery Meister the remainder of the Perry scoring.

Nate Mueller had 21 points for ADM, with Tate Stine-Smith and Nate Conrad each scoring 12 points. Jason Milsap and Caden Mager added five points apiece, with Dylan Anderson scoring four points and Ethan Juergens three.

Perry will host Winterset Tuesday and visit Ballard Friday in a pair of RRC boys/girls sets, with each beginning at 6 p.m. Tuesday’s game will be the annual Coaches vs. Cancer contest.
