Two positive cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Sunday in the Woodward-Granger Community School District (WGCSD), involving siblings, one in third grade and the other in fifth.

The district communicated the news Sunday evening in an email to parents with children in the two elementary classes, indicating the need for a 14-day quarantine. The letter opened: “This letter is to inform you that your child has been identified as a close contact to someone with a laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19 and must quarantine for 14 days.”

The quarantine applies to some 20 to 25 students and their teachers. Woodward-Granger Elementary School Principal Matt Brummond offered further information Sunday evening in Facebook communications with district parents.

“The confirmed cases are in Miss Beggerly’s 3rd grade and Mr. Garland’s 5th grade classrooms,” Brummond said. “Students in those rooms will automatically shift to the remote/virtual learning model until we have a confirmed return date, which will be communicated by the end of the school day tomorrow.”

Dr. Matthew J. Adams, WGCSD superintendent, is also the director of transportation for the district. He is expected to communicate information imminently about the effects of the cases on the three shuttle school buses that run between Woodward and Granger and the Bouton bus.

“As we all navigate the ever-changing dynamic of the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to be presented with new challenges and the need to respond and adapt to overcome these challenges,” Adams said in a letter to all parents, students and faculty. “I am continually impressed with the actions of our students, our staff and our school community during this time.”
