The Perry High School swim team will open their season Thursday night at the McCreary Community Building by hosting the Algona High School swim team.

The races start at 6:30 p.m., and workers need to check-in at 6 p.m.

Swim team coach Jean Dowd, starting her 23rd year with the PHS swimmers, said the team is eager to compete.

“The girls are already talking about trying new relay combinations,” Dowd said. She said the PHS team will participate in the Ames Invite again this season and will travel to North High School in Des Moines for the first time in several years.

“We don’t have too many long bus trips the season, which is great,” she said. “We do go to Newton, which is a meter pool. That will be a new experience for many of the girls.”

Dowd is assisted by assistant coach Hilliary Mahler. The student swimmers include:

  • Emily Dowd
  • Zoe Hibbert
  • Quin Mahler-Moreno
  • Maddie McDevitt
  • Sophia McDevitt
  • Jenna Nelson
  • Hailey Peterson
  • Lilly Riley
