The Perry boys, who are outright Raccoon River Conference champs for the second consecutive season, had eight players recently earn All-RRC status.

Visiting Bondurant-Farrar discovered Tuesday what a whole series of teams have, to their discomfort, have learned this season — the Perry boys soccer team does not lack for depth.

The Bluejay JV ripped the visiting Bluejays of B-F, 7-0, at Dewey Field, two days after the Perry JV had posted a three wins in as many matches at their own tournament. Individual scoring from the victory was not available.

“Our JV plays very, very well, much like a varsity team would play,” Perry head coach Gary Overla said. “They possess the ball well and are pretty efficient on the finish. It is a true pleasure working with these kids.”

Perry had finished 3-0 at Dewey Field Saturday, beginning with a 2-1 win over Ames on penalty kicks. Mikey Velasco, Cristian Guardado, Anthony Velasco, Bryan Catalan and Brandon Ruiz scored for Perry in the shootout round.

The JV Jays received two goals from Anthony Guardado to spark a 4-0 win over Newton, a game in which, Overla said, “We were in complete control. The kids played really well defensively.”

Ames blanked Newton, 4-0, and Des Moines Lincoln, 4-0, with Newton shutting out Lincoln, 3-0, setting the stage for the final game of the tourney, a match pitting Perry against Lincoln.

“This game was really physical and bodies were flying all over the field,” Overla said of Perry’s 3-0 victory. “Dax Kresse had a save on a penalty kick  and then two saces off of rebounds. The kids went nuts when he made those saves.”

The JV Jays will face Boone at 5:30 p.m. at Dewey Field Thursday, with the varsity contest to follow.
