ALLEMAN — An interception returned for a touchdown in the final minute of play was the only scoring Friday in North Polk’s 6-0 win over Perry in a frosh/soph contest.
Freshman/sophomore coach Shannon Cline lauded the effort of the team.
“We didn’t force a single punt last year,” he said. “Our freshmen — the two years they were in middle school they were used to getting beat 52-0, 56-0, so this is a great result.”
“We had possession with two minutes to go and could have settled for the tie, but I wanted to go for the win and they returned a pick for a score,” Cline added. “I told the boys ‘that one is on me’ and they should be extremely proud of the way they played and the effort they gave.”
Cline noted the strong play of quarterbacks Konnor Eppert and Jordan Ochoa, who rotated at the position.
“Neither one complained about playing time and both were willing to do whatever it took to help the team,” he said. “We also had a great game from running back Eric Funez, although I have to say the whole team played as well as I have seen them play.”
