Senior Jo Diw went wild at the plate in Saturday’s opener against Class 4A No. 9 Lewis Central to lead Perry to a 10-3 victory, with Ogden pounding out a 16-2 victory in four innings during the final game of the classic.

Diw was 4-for-4 with a single, double and two home runs against the Titans, diving in four runs and scoring three times from her lead-off spot atop the lineup.

Jayna Kenney had a RBI-single, Gabby West and Peyton Tunink added base hits, and Adriana Eastman hit a two-run double. T.J. Sheehy had a base hit and scored twice to aid the cause.

Diw doubled and scored on a Kenney single to give Perry a 1-0 lead, with Sheehy walked and later scoring on an error in the second to give the Jayettes a 2-0 edge.

Eastman’s two-run double and the second Titan error helped spark a seven-run top of the third for Perry, with Diw’s three-run home run the highlight of the surge.

Lewis Central used four singles, with a run-scoring sacrifice fly mixed in, to score three times in the third to cut their deficit to 9-3, but Diw launched a solo home run in the sixth to cap the scoring.

The two dingers were the first pair of the year for the senior standout and raises her career home run total to 24.

Alyssa Kruger allowed nine hits and two walks while hitting one batter in six innings of work. She finished with three strikeouts while yielding the three runs in earning the win.

Josie Shudak had two singles and a double for the Titans, with both Haley Bach and Alea Binkly adding two hits apiece.

Ogden blistered three Perry pitchers for 16 runs on 10 hits to win the second game of Saturday for each squad. The Bulldogs scored twice in the first, once in the second, twice more in the third and then 11 times in the top of the fourth to record the lopsided win.

Perry scored once in the first at-bat and again once in their second turn at the plate, and trailed just 3-2 after two innings.

Diw singled and scored on a Kruger single in the first for Perry, with singles from Eastman and Sheehy putting two runners aboard in the second, with a ground out from Kennedy Tunkink plating Eastman.

Kruger started and tossed two frames, yielding three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks while striking out four. She was relieved by Jayna Kenney, who pitched 1-1/3 innings. Peyton Tunink replaced Kenney for one out, with Kenney returning to the circle for the final out.

Kenney went a combined total of 1-2/3 innings, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout. Tunink surrendered nine runs on three hits and five walks.

Denali Loecker walked two and allowed two hits and two runs in four innings to pick up the win for Ogden. She finished with four strikeouts and hit a three-run home run.

Perry hosts Gilbert Tuesday and ADM Wednesday for a varsity doubleheader beginning at 5:30 p.m.
