The band shell in Pattee Park will remain silent this June with the announced cancellation of the Friday Fest.

The band shell in Pattee Park has been pretty quiet this summer with the Perry Community Band on hiatus and with only the people letting freedom ring on the Fourth of July, but that will all change Friday at 6:30 p.m., when the shell resounds to the sounds of local rockers Rukkus at the free Friday Fest.

Rukkus has roots in Perry. The core members — lead singer Mark Einck of Perry, lead guitarist Jim Wuebker of Grimes and rhythm guitarist J. C. Wilson of Des Moines — have played together since seventh grade.

Other band members include Ben Einck of Des Moines on keyboards and guitar and Urbandale’s Steve Rorebeck, a former member of the Flying Marsupials, rocking steady on drums.

Rukkus’ performance was nearly rained out at the 2017 Friday Fest, which is sponsored by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the Raccoon Valley Bank and the Dallas County Hospital.

A number of local food vendors are expected to be on hand to satisfy most every nutritional need at Friday Fest. Inflatables will be available for the kids, and families are welcome to bring blanets, picnic baskets and non-glass beverages to the free event.
