An alleged shoplifter was arrested Friday about 9:15 p.m. after he fled from the Shopko store in Perry and was run down in a foot chase with an officer of the Perry Police Department.

Loren Anton Goodwin III, 39, 505 E. Salem Ave., Indianola, was arrested on local charges of interference with official acts and fourth-degree theft. He was later arrested on a Boone County warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of driving while barred.

The incident began about 9 p.m., when an employee of the Perry Shopko called the Perry Police Department and said a man just “left Shopko with plastic containers in his pocket.” The caller said the man “was seen walking towards Flashmart.”

Officers responded and located Goodwin behind the Perry Hy-Vee, where he sought to flee. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Goodwin has 10 prior convictions for driving while barred, three prior convictions for fifth-degree theft, two for interference with official acts and single convictions for first-degree burglary, public intoxication, domestic abuse assault and a variety of other crimes.
