Blue Devils surge past visiting Panthers

MARTENSDALE — A nine-run fifth inning carried Martensdale-St. Marys to a 12-4 win over visiting Panorama in non-conference baseball June 6.[wpedon id=”82220″ align=”center”]

Panorama (1-8) led, 2-0, before two M-SM runs tied the game in the bottom of the third, with the hosts moving into a 3-2 lead after scoring once in the fourth.

Two Panther runs in the top of the fifth moved the visitors back in front, at 4-3, but the Blue Devils exploded for nine tallies in their ensuing at-bat to pull away for the victory.

Koltin Sloss suffered the pitching loss for Panorama, but no statistics were provided.

Luke South had a single, a double, two runs and a stolen base for the Panthers, with Preston Walker adding a RBI-double. Jacob Iseminger had a RBI and a single, with Tanner Godfrey, Levi Richey, and Domonic Walker each adding base hits.

Trey Baker tossed 4-1/3 innings for M-SM, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out five. Carson Elbert threw 1-2/3 frames, yielding two hits.

Trevor Dooley had a single, a triple and three RBIs while scoring twice for the hosts, with Brady Gavin tallying two singles, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Esa Johanson aided the winning cause with a RBI-double.

Panorama returns to action by hosting Earlham tonight and visiting AC/GC Tuesday. Panorama will then visit Woodward-Granger for a varsity doubleheader Thursday, with the opener starting at 5:30 p.m. All four contests are WCAC games.
