The 100-year-old cornerstone of the Boone County Courthouse will be rededicated in a ceremony scheduled for May 4 at 1 p.m. outside on the north side of the Courthouse. Attendees should try to arrive by 12:30 p.m. in order to be seated prior to the ceremony.

When the Boone County Courthouse was dedicated on May 1, 1918, America had just entered World War I while Civil War veterans attended the dedication.

Since then, Boone County has gained connections to U.S. Presidents, had farmers that now feed the nation, created a local business community that reaches across the world and countless people who have proudly called Boone County their home.

The pride in Boone County is seen in the public courthouse, built in the style of Italian Renaissance architecture and showcasing granite from Vermont, Tennessee and Georgia, with Bedford limestone, and marble terrazzo floors that still shine today even after 100 years.

The Mason’s Grand Lodge of Iowa will rededicate the cornerstone of the Boone County Courthouse in a ceremony scheduled for May 4 at 1 p.m. outside on the north side of the Courthouse. Attendees should try to arrive by 12:30 p.m. in order to be seated prior to the ceremony.

Local and state elected officials have been invited to speak, and an open house and reception, including tours of the courthouse, will be held after the ceremony.
