New windows are the latest improvement seen at the Taylor Building at 1211-1217 Willis Ave. in downtown Perry, under the direction of its new owner, Cathy Nguyen of West Des Moines.

Nguyen bought the building, the site of the former Kickstand bar, in 2016, with plans to open a bar and restaurant in the western half of the building. The future of the eastern half of the building is uncertian, according to Nguyen’s daughter, Trang Jorgensen of Ankeny.

The Kickstand bar at 1211 Willis Ave. was previously owned by Natoma “Toni” Grim of Adel and operated for many years by Doug and Marvel Benedict as the Rockin’ Horse bar and later as the Kickstand bar. The contract on the business was forfeited in 2013 after the Benedicts’ deaths.

The new windows were in place Monday morning at the Taylor Building at 1211-1217 Willis Ave.
