WOODWARD — Visiting Ogden dashed to a 32-13 halftime lead and easily held on from there for a 53-32 win over Woodward-Granger in WCC girls basketball Tuesday.

W-G (0-4, 0-4) simply could not put the ball in the basket, hitting only 11-of-64 (17 percent) shots from the floor, including a head-shaking 1-of-18 behind the 3-point line. The Hawks sank just 9-of-21 foul shots and, paired with 20 turnovers, made catching their guests almost impossible.

“We got all kinds of shots, and shots we can make, we just didn’t make them — all night long,” a disappointed Hawk head coach Gary Dresback said. “That works on you mentally and is tough to come back from in a game.”

W-G became more assertive with the ball after the intermission and began taking the ball to the basket, with Ogden (6-2, 3-1) committing 10 fouls in the third quarter alone. Unfortunately the Hawks sank just 4-of-11 at the line in the period and hit just 1-of-12 from the floor.

“We held them to five points and gave ourselves the opportunities that we needed to make a run in the quarter, but just could not get it done,” Dresback said. “Give Ogden credit — they did what they needed to do to methodically pull away and get the easy win.”

Riley Jamison led W-G with nine points while grabbing five rebounds and making three steals. Mary Hansen had seven points, six boards and two thefts, with Riley Kirton adding five points and four rebounds. Four points apiece from Miranda Aunspach and Alyssa Bice and three from Kendra Husmann capped the W-G scoring.

W-G travels to Madrid Friday. The Tigers have announced they are declaring the game a “red-out” in honor of former Hawk junior Drew Jacobson, with the school to donate all concession proceeds to the Jacobson family. W-G will then visit Panorama Tuesday for their final pre-holiday contest.
