A Carroll woman was arrested on drug charges Wednesday after the vehicle she was driving was stopped for expired plates.

Cortney Mae Currera, 30, of 121 Northwest St., Carroll, was charged with controlled substance violation, failure to affix drug stamp and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 1:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 6700 block of Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department observed Currera “operating a vehicle with expired registration and no insurance,” according to court records.

Currera allegedly “gave officers consent to search (here) vehicle.” The search disclosed “a small zip-lock baggie with a clear, crystal-like substance,” and Currera “admitted to the crystal-like substance being methamphetamine,” according to court records.

The weight of the methamphetamine exceeded 7 grams, according to court records..

The search of the vehicle also disclosed “multiple marijuana pipes.”

Currera is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $105,300 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is innocent until and unless proven guilty.
