With a major winter storm predicted to hit Perry on Wednesday, the leadership of the Perry Public Works Department issued a few reminders Tuesday about some things residents and businesses can do to help the city workers work as safely and efficiently as possible.

Plowing and Vehicles:

Please do not park on the street. The city can perform snow removal operations more safely and quickly with no cars on the roadways. Also, with the high winds expected, snow removal operations will be ongoing, meaning that if the snow ends, the plows will still be clearing areas for several days.

If you must be out and see equipment performing snow removal operations, please stay back and give the operator as much room as possible. It can sometimes be very difficult to see amid high winds and blowing snow.

The Perry Police Department will be enforcing the snow ordinance. To avoid a knock on your door or a ticket, please do not park on the streets.

If conditions become too dangerous for city workers, snow removal operations might be suspended until it is safe for crews and equipment to be on the roads. Please plan travel plans accordingly.

Garbage Collection:

With high winds predicted up to 50 mph, the city asks residents to assist with garbage collection. If your garbage is collected on Thursday or Friday and if you have enough room in your cart to wait until next week for collection, please do so.

If you need to have your garbage collected on Thursday or Friday, please bring out your bin on the morning of collection and not before. After it is emptied, return the bin to your storage area as soon as possible. This will prevent bins from blowing into the roadway and causing safety issues or damage.

Please make sure all trash is in bags when placed in the bin. Loose debris is not permitted and will blow all over with the expected winds.

If you have a commercial container, please make sure the area is free of snow for the city workers to safely empty it.

“The citizens of Perry have always been gracious in helping us perform our tasks safely and efficiently,” said Perry Public Works Director Josh Wuebker and Perry Public Works Superintendent Mike Landals. “We appreciate everyone’s help, and happy holidays from the Perry Public Works Department!”
