After prohibiting the in-town burning of yard waste in the spring this year, the Perry City Council has opened a narrow window for fall burning.

The season to burn yard waste legally in the city of Perry will begin Saturday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. and end Nov. 20 at sundown.

According to city ordinance, all burning must take place between the hours of 10 a.m. and sundown. Open burning is restricted to private property and must be conducted in the rear of the property.

Yard waste fires must be supervised at all times and must occur at least 30 feet from any building occupied by persons other than the landowner or tenant doing the open burning.

In spite of the three-week permission, the city of Perry still encourages residents to find alternative methods to open burning for yard waste disposal. For more information, call the Perry City Hall at 515-465-2481.
