City releases details about July 18 household hazardous waste and used tire collections

The city of Perry will collect household hazardous waste from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday, July 18 at the Perry Police and Perry Volunteer Fire Department parking lot at 908 Willis Ave.

Items accepted include aerosol cleaners and paints, acids and bases, antifreeze, batteries (only rechargeable), cell phones, cleaners, fertilizers, floor care products, fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs), glues, gasoline and kerosene, motor oil (used), oil filters (used), oil-based paint, oven cleaner, pesticides, poison, pool chemicals, roofing tar, rust removers, shellac, stains, varnishes, thermostats, thermometers (mercury), vegetable oil, weed killers and windshield fluid.

The city will not accept ammunition, appliances, asbestos, electronics, explosives, fire extinguishers, latex paint, medications, propane tanks and radioactive materials.

Please note that this does not include latex paint. To dispose of latex paint, either open the can to dry out the paint or pour the paint in a cardboard box to dry. The dried cans and boxes may then be disposed of in the regular garbage pickup.

The city of Perry annual used tire collection also occurs from 8 a.m. util noon Saturday, July 18, but the collection point is the Perry Recycle Center, 14325 Ivy Place. There will be no charge to dispose of the first five car tires. A fee of $1 will be charged to dispose of each additional car tire.

The disposal cost for large truck and tractor tires will be $5 each. All tires must be removed from the rims. Please note: The collection is for residential use only. Tires from businesses will not be accepted.
