DES MOINES, Iowa — LifeServe Blood Center is asking community members to book an appointment to give blood at upcoming Dallas County blood drives.

If a hospital patient requires a transfusion, that blood must come from a healthy volunteer donor, LifeServe Blood Center said in a statement issued Monday. It is vital that eligible community members continue to give blood regularly in order to ensure the health of the community.

LifeServe is enforcing several precautionary measures to help ensure the safety of blood donors and team members during the COVID-19 pandemic. Appointments are required. Donors who do not have an appointment will not be able to give blood.

Blood donors should pre-screen themselves for fever prior to appointments. Only donors with temperatures under 99.5 will be allowed to donate. Blood donors are required to wear a mask for the duration of their appointment. Donors without masks will be provided with them.

Two community blood drives in Dallas County are scheduled in coming weeks:

  • Redfield Community Blood Drive, Tuesday, June 30 from 3:307 p.m. at the  Redfield American Legion Hall, 1116 Thomas St.
  • Waukee Community Blood Drive, Tuesday, July 7 from 2:30-6:30 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 900 Warrior Lane.

Appointments are required. Schedule a blood donation appointment online at lifeservebloodcenter.org or call 800-287-4903.
