Perry Area Democrats will host a meet-and-greet event for Pete d’Allesandro, Democratic candidate for Iowa’s third congressional district, an office currently held by Rep. David Young (R-Iowa).

D’Alessandro will meet Perry-area voters Tuesday, May 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the Perry Public Library at 1101 Willis Ave.

A Chicago-area native, d’Alessandro has been an active force in Iowa politics since the 1990s. He was political director for Iowa Gov. Chet Culver from 2007 to 2011 and  directed the 2016 presidential campaign for Sen. Bernie Sanders in Iowa.

“Now is the time to elect a candidate willing to stand for something by supporting a true, progressive plan to get our country back on the right track,” d’Alessandro said in campaign literature. “To win the future, we need to take a stand. That’s why I will fight for a $15/hour living wage that supports American workers, support expanding Medicare-for-all as the best way to provide affordable and accessible healthcare coverage to Americans, provide tuition-free college for students who work hard and be a leader as we fight our global climate crisis.”

“Please come and be willing to share your thoughts and concerns as well as ask questions,” said a statement from the Perry Area Democrats.

The meet-and-greet event is free and open to the public.
