A Coon Rapids man was killed Wednesday morning when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train in rural Greene County.

A Coon Rapids man was killed Wednesday morning when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a Union Pacific Railroad train in rural Greene County, the Iowa State Patrol announced Wednesday afternoon.

Marvin Lee Krieger, 62, of Coon Rapids was traveling southbound in his 2015 Toyota Corolla on County Road P33 (S Avenue) about 8:45 a.m., when he failed to stop for a westbound Union Pacific Railroad train, which struck Krieger’s vehicle within the crossing.

Krieger was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the ISP crash report.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office, Iowa Department of Motor Vehicles, Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department, Grand Junction Volunteer Fire Department and Greene County EMS also responded.
