Two small but mighty Dallas Center social clubs, the Dallas Center Brewers and the Dallas Center Smokers, had their styles cramped this summer by the challenges of the novel coronavirus, but the groups will take center stage on the next two weekends.

The brewers and smokers will host grab-and-go events on Saturday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Oct. 3, from 4-6 p.m. in Mound Park at the intersection of Percival Avenue and Walnut Street in Dallas Center.

Each Saturday event will features four different beers and one unique hard cider along with an assortment of barbecued meats. Diners and drinkers are invited to bring clean growlers, pick up samples of foods and drinks and leave a generous donation.

The Dallas Center Brewers and Smokers hosted a test run Saturday, Sept. 19 to the satisfaction of all involved.

All proceeds from the free-will-offering events will go to the Shop with a Cop program, which helps local youths purchase Christmas gifts for the families, and to SAILDC, whose members help keep our aging and physically challenged residents in their homes by providing transportation, snow shoveling, food and shopping support (when the virus allows).

Each year the Brewers and Smokers raise around $3,000 to support the community. They can be contacted and donations may be sent to DC Brewers and Smokers, P.O. Box 123, Dallas Center, IA 50063.

The Brewers have been hosting their enjoyable fundraisers for eight years, and the Smokers joined them four years ago. Both groups include members who have been practicing their distinctive crafts for as long as 32 years.
