The members of the Dallas County Area Retired School Personnel Association (DCARSPA) listened with great interest to “Making It Right,” a downsizing pep talk by Tisa Johnson that touched on how to let go of the stuff we all have accumulated in our lives.

Johnson emphasized “rightsizing,” which she defined as embracing the opportunity to make your home situation more “right” for who you are today and the kind of life you want to live. She touted the benefits of rightsized moving, such as less anxiety, ease of living, safety, feeling more ready for potential moves in the future and sparing families and loved ones a potential burden.

Johnson founded Senior Transitioning Services of Central Iowa in 2015, using her experiences as a social worker to help people with the many practical and emotional factors involved in sorting, selling, packing and moving their belongings.

The DCARSPA group also finalized plans for a $500 scholarship to be offered to a graduate of a Dallas County school or any graduate living in Dallas County and planning to attend the DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy in Perry. Applications are now available at the Academy and at local high school counselors’ offices. The deadline to apply is May 1.
