The Dallas County Hospital has partnered with 21st Century Rehab in an effort to bring a durable medical equipment (DME) loan closet to Perry, and they are asking for help from the public.

A loan closet is a program that rents out DME on a temporary basis to persons within the Perry community. DMEs are often needed after illness, hospitalization or surgery. Common DMEs include commodes, shower chairs, tub transfer benches, walkers, wheel chairs, canes, shoe horns, sock aids, reachers and other items.

The cost of DMEs is not always covered by insurance. The new DCH/21st Century Rehab loan closet will provide options for rental of these valued DME at no cost for a temporary timeframe.

The DCH and 21st Century Rehab are asking for donations of DMEs to help fill the new loan closet. DME is defined as any equipment that can withstand repeated use and can provide therapeutic use to persons with illnesses or medical conditions.

For more information on how to donate, contact Caitlin McDowell, the 21st Century Rehab OTR/L at the Dallas County Hospital, at 515-465-7557.

Macinzie McFarland is the marketing and community relations manager at the Dallas County Hospital.
