Females occupy a prominent place up and down the ballot in the current election cycle, and the Dallas County Democrats hosted a rally Monday night for female office seekers at the county, state and federal levels.

About 50 people filled the Raccoon Valley Bank Community House in Adel to hear brief speeches by Dallas County Board of Supervisors district one candidate Breanna Morman, Dallas County Board of Supervisors district three candidate Patricia Stalter, Dallas County Treasurer candidate Julie Stewart and Dallas County Soil and Water District Commission candidate Vernica Lack.

Iowa Secretary of State candidate Deidre DeJear fired up the crowd before leaving a little early in order to introduce U.S. Sen. Kamala Harris of California at a fundraiser in Des Moines.

Iowa Lieutenant Governor candidate Rita Hart, sharing the Democrat slate with gubernatorial candidate Fred Hubbell, was unable to attend the rally as planned, and Iowa third Congressional district candidate Cindy Axne arrived a little late from another rally with Sen. Harris.

Axne said a vote for her is a choice for affordable healthcare, quality educaton, fair union representation, a clean environment and “a choice that will absolutely stand up for every person in this community, our minorities, our LGBT, our women — men, too — but those are the voices that are under attack right now. So please get out there, and let them know there’s a better choice in this election that will bring hope and opportunity to all of them.”

Dallas County Democrat Chairman Bryce Smith served as master of ceremonies at the two-hour event.
