The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a dense fog advisory until 10 a.m. Friday for the Perry area.
Visibility of one-quarter mile will be widespread, with visibility dropping to zero at times. North of U.S. Highway 30, visibility is expected to drop gradually to a quarter mile by midnight, with low-lying areas dropping sooner.
Driving will be hazardous due to low and changing visibilities, according to the NWS.
Motorists should allow themselves extra travel time and take appropriate precautions while driving, being especially cautious near intersections and railroad crossings because vehicles and trains may be hidden from view by the dense fog.
Travelers should also be especially careful Friday morning when traveling along known school bus routes because buses make frequent stops.
Motorists should slow down, use low beams and fog headlights and leave plenty of distance ahead of their vehicle.
According to the NWS, a sdaturated airmass with light winds is causing the dense fog. Temperatures will remain above freezing, but visibility will be at or near zero at times.
