Des Moines man allegedly assaults woman outside Chick-fil-A

Shevell Earl Ash, 20, of Des Moines was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and violation of a no-contact order.

A Des Moines man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after allegedly assaulting a women in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A fast food restaurant in West Des Moines .

Shevell Earl Ash, 20, of Des Moines was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and violation of a no-contact order.

The incident began about 12:45 p.m. in the 6500 block of Mills Civic Parkway, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a fight.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Ash “was very angry and aggressive with her” and when “she tried to run from him, he grabbed her sweatshirt and pulled it back, causing abrasions to her neck and tearing her sweatshirt all the way down to her midsection,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “scratches” and “blood,” according to court records.

Witnesses at the scene said Ash “grabbed a large chunk of concrete, approximately the size of a softball, and chased her around in an aggressive manner,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that she drove Ash “to a job interview” and Ash allegedly “assaulted the victim due to anger resulting from the job interview,” according to court records.

Ash is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 5 in Dallas County District Court.

Ash was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illnessĀ  and violation of a no-contact order in 2023 in Polk County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
