Adreona Lea Winfrey, 21, of Des Moines was arrested Tuesday on charges of interference with official acts-firearm and probation violation.

A Des Moines woman was arrested at a West Des Moines motel Tuesday night after she allegedly refused to disclose to police a handgun in her possession.

Adreona Lea Winfrey, 21, of 6700 S.W. Ninth St., Des Moines, was charged with interference with official acts-firearm and probation violation.

The incident occurred about 11 p.m. Tuesday in the 7600 block of Office Plaza Drive N. in West Des Moines, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a fight involving a weapon.

A party to the dispute told the officers that Winfrey had a gun in her bag. When Winfrey allegedly “was asked and refused to give the bag over” to law enforcement, she was detained, according to court records.

A search of the bag disclosed a Smith and Wesson Bodyguard 380 pistol.

Winfrey was convicted of fourth-degree theft in November 2021 in Dallas County District Court, and one of the rules of her probation stipulated that she would “not own, possess, or use a firearm or dangerous weapon,” according to court records.

Winfrey is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 17 in Dallas County District Court and a probation violation hearing June 29 in Dallas County District Court.
