Charles Thomas Avaux, 60, of Dexter was arrested Wednesday on charges of carrying weapons, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Dexter man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a law enforcement officer spotted suspected drugs in his vacant pickup truck.

Charles Thomas Avaux, 60, of 8439 Park Dr., Dexter, was charged with carrying weapons, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 24000 block of N Avenue, where a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff observed an unoccupied Chevrolet Silverado parked on the southbound shoulder but facing northbound.

Examining the vehicle, the deputy saw “a glass pipe with white residue near the center console in plain view,” according to court records.

The deputy made contact with Avaux, who was nearby and “was checking on a controlled burn at 24999 N Ave.,” according to court records. Avaux told the deputy that “the vehicle was his.”

A probable-cause search of the vehicle disclosed “a baggie of suspected methamphetamine, a cylinder containing suspected marijuana, glass pipe and a package of syringes” as well as “three firearms,” according to court records.

Avaux was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to his release on his own recognizance. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 2 in Dallas County District Court.
