An Earlham man was arrested Tuesday on a Dallas County warrant in connection with a February incident in which he allegedly strangled his ex-wife in her Adel apartment.

Mark Lyle Derry, 35, of 535 N.W. Fourth St., Earlham, was charged with domestic abuse assault-impeding air/blood flow, child endangerment and two counts of violation of a no-contact order.

The incident began Feb. 21 about 8 p.m. in the 2100 block of Greene Street in Adel, where officers of the Adel Police Department responded to the report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Derry allegedly “forced his way into” the victim’s apartment “instead of leaving like he was asked,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that Derry allegedly “knocked” the victim “to the ground and started choking her by putting his hands around her neck and over her mouth,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “visible red marks on her neck and face,” according to court records.

The victim told the officers that the alleged assault “took place in the living room in front of” the victim’s minor son.

A warrant for Derry’s arrest was ordered Feb. 22 in Dallas County District Court. Derry is held in the Dallas County on a $300 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.
