Fall sports seasons kick into gear for area high schools

Some sports start a bit later than others when the new school year beins, but by the time Sept 3 rolls around all area football, cross country, volleyball and girls swimming teams will be underway.

The schedules for Perry, Woodward-Granger and Panorama for Tuesday through Sept. 3 will include all varsity teams at each school.

The Perry swimmers will travel to the Indianola YMCA Tuesday to face the Indians before traveling to Des Moines North Thursday. The Bluejay and Jayette cross country teams will run at Grant Woods Park in Madrid Thursday, with Perry hosting Greene County Friday for the 91st playing of the Cowbell Game while the Jayette varsity volleyballers finally start competition Sept. 3 with a visit to the South Central Calhoun Tournament.

Woodward-Granger volleyball will host Des Moines Christian Tuesday before joining Atlantic, Gilbert, Nevada and Norwalk Thursday for their annual visit to the ADM Tourney. The Hawk harriers are at the Madrid Invite Thursday, with the football team hosting AC/GC Friday.

Greene County and South Central Calhoun will stop by Panorama for a volleyball triangular Tuesday, with the Panther cross country squads also at Madrid Thursday while the gridders entertain Pella Christian Friday.
