The Dallas County Conservation Foundation took a step farther toward its goal Tuesday when Fareway Manager Travis Landgrebe presented the foundation with a donation check.

“Fareway’s generous customers rounded up their total bill for the week of May 22 through 27 for the Let’s Connect project,” Landgrebe said, “and the total came to $569.64.”

Accepting the round-up check was Dallas County Conservation Board Director Mike Wallace and Hiawatha Bicycle Club member and Let’s Connect volunteer Mary Laborde.

The phase-one portion of the 9-mile, $5-million project to connect the Raccoon River Valley Trail and the High Trestle Trail will include the segment from 18th Street in Perry eastward about 1.5 miles to 130th Street. The total cost for the phase-one construction is $556,000, Wallace said.

“It was yet another great round up by our loyal fareway customers.” said Landgrebe.

Fareway customers donated $569.64 between May 22 and 27 for the Let’s Connect trail project.
