ALTOONA, Iowa — Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will conduct farmland leasing meetings at 12 sites in central Iowa during late July and August in order to discuss various methods to determine a fair 2020 cash rental rate and the importance of good tenant-landlord communications.

Meeting sites include Adel, Altoona, Boone, Gladbrook, Greenfield, Grinnell, Indianola, Knoxville, Nevada, , Newton, Indianola, Knoxville, Marshalltown and Winterset. The meetings are coordinated by each county’s ISU Extension and Outreach offices.

According to the “Cash Rental Rates for Iowa–2019 Survey,” released in mid-May, the average 2019 cash rent statewide is $219 per tillable acre, a $3 per acre decrease compared to 2018.

Average cash rents statewide stabilized in 2018 after a decline of nearly 19 percent from the 2013 peak.

The Adel meeting site will be Monday, July 29 at 9 a.m., with doors opening at 8:30 a.m., at St. John’s Catholic Church, 24043 302nd Place in Adel. The meeting will last about 2.5 hours and will be facilitated by Steve Johnson, farm and agriculture business management specialist with ISU Extension and Outreach.

Preregistration is required at least two days before the meeting, and a $20 fee for individuals or $30 for couples is payable at the door. Participants will receive a 100-page booklet and meeting handouts designed to assist landowners, tenants and other agribusiness professionals with issues related to farmland ownership, management and leasing arrangements.

For more information or to preregister by July 26, call the Dallas County Extension office at 515-993-4281.
