Perry Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Travis Murphy put the department's thermal imaging camera to good use Thursday morning in the laundry room of the Rowley Memorial Masonic Community.

Heat buildup from a faulty exhaust duct in the laundry room set off the commercial fire alarm Thursday morning at the Rowley Memorial Masonic Community in Perry.

A fire alarm was triggered in the laundry room of the Rowley Memorial Masonic Home Thursday morning when a faulty exhaust duct caused a buildup of heat in the room.

The Perry Police Department and Perry Volunteer Fire Department responded to the incident at 3000 Willis Ave.

Jason Bane, a staff member at the long-term care facility, reported the alarm about 6:30 a.m. Bane is himself a member of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, and he requested that firefighters bring a thermal imaging camera to the scene.

Using the camera, Perry firefighter Travis Murphy quickly located the source of the excess heat in the laundry room, where a duct was improperly attached to a clothes dryer unit.

The problem was soon solved, and the firefighting team, which included Bane’s wife, Aimee Bane, were left with time to wish Jason Bane a happy birthday before returning to the fire station shortly after 7 a.m.

The Perry Volunteer Fire Department quickly isolated and solved the heat problem Thursday morning in the laundry room of the Rowley Memorial Masonic Community.
“Happy birthday, Jason!” the Perry firefighters said as they returned to the station.
