The Perry Volunteer Fire Department battled a mobile home fire in 100-degree heat Thursday afternoon at the Northgate Estates at 2801 First Ave. in Perry.

No injuries were reported in the 3:45 p.m. blaze, which destroyed one structure and badly damaged a second home nearby.

Residents of the mobile home park said the destroyed unit was undergoing demolition for the last week and was believed to be vacant at the time of the fire.

It is unknown at this hour whether the second, damaged home was occupied. It appeared to sustain extensive damage to its exterior and to be filled with smoke within.

Firefighters controlled the blaze within about 30 minutes.

The Northgate Estates contains about 75 mobile home lots. The park was formerly known as the Bar Jac Mobile Estates.

The Perry Police Department, Perry First Responders, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Woodward Volunteer Fire Department and Dallas County EMS responded.
