Embers from a wood stove set fire to the roof of a storage building south of Perry Thursday night about 9:30 p.m., bringing a response from the Perry Volunteer Fire Department, which quickly controlled the blaze.
The fire started where the chimney stack entered the ceiling of the 5,000-square-foot steel utility building, according to Dave Pillow, assistant fire chief with the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.
“We extinguished the embers that were burning where the stack went through the roof,” Pillow said, “and then checked for extension and then sat on if for a little bit to make sure it wasn’t going to rekindle. Then we left.”
Pillow said the shop was also thoroughly vented by firefighters before they returned to the station about 11:00 p.m.
Three pumper trucks, including one from the Dawson station, and a rescue truck were brought to the scene. There were no injuries.
The building at 16402 J Ave. belongs to Chriss and Shawn Barck, according to county records.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s office and Dallas County EMS also responded.
