BOUTON, Iowa — In spite of winds sometimes gusting at more than 25 mph Friday afternoon, the Bouton Volunteer Fire Department conducted a joint training exercise with the Iowa Air National Guard.

The controlled brush fire burn is taking place south of Iowa Highway 141 and east of Odessa Place. The fire was lit about noon, and the exercise will continue until about 3 p.m.

The helicopters are spot dropping water in an exercise aiming to enhance coordination with local firefighters and evaluate the response capabilities.

Odessa Place will remain closed between Iowa Highway 141 and 150th Street until about 8 p.m. Friday.
