DES MOINES, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced Wednesday it is investigating a fish kill along a two-mile stretch of lower Walnut Creek.
Concerned citizens first reported seeing dead fish Tuesday along the portion of Walnut Creek roughly one-third mile below U.S. Interstate 235 to the Raccoon River along 63rd Street.
The popular Walnut Creek Bike Trail system runs along the creek, and many reports of dead fish were received from concerned citizens, the DNR said.
The DNR said its field staff and fisheries staff responded yesterday and continue to investigate. The fish kill is not ongoing, the DNR said, but dead fish were still evident Wednesday.
